About the Review

Each year, a random selection of Registered Nurses (RNs) and Registered Nurse Practitioners (RN(NP)s) are notified in July that they have been selected to participate in the Continuing Competency Program (CCP) Review. This important process helps ensure compliance with legislative requirements and reinforces the nursing profession’s commitment to lifelong learning and high standards of care.

This webpage provides clear, accessible information about what the CCP Review involves and what participants can expect. It also outlines the outcomes of the review process, highlighting our shared dedication to professional growth and public trust.

UPDATES:

In response to feedback the CCP Team has worked to redesign the CCP Review to ensure it is more supportive and reflective of the CCP’s intent. This year, the entire CCP Review process is undergoing redevelopment to better align with its purpose—cultivating enhanced practice through lifelong learning.

Over the next 1–2 years, you can expect the CCP Review to evolve as we implement and refine the new system. What will remain consistent is that nurses will continue to be notified in July if they have been selected for the CCP Review, and those selected will still be required to share their learning plan for the current year with the CCP Team.

2026 CCP Review Notifications: Registrants selected to participate in this year’s CCP Review will receive an email notification from ccp@crnm.mb.ca on July 2.

A new online presentation has been added to our resources to support the development of an effective annual learning plan.

A Supportive and Educational Process

Like the Continuing Competency Program (CCP) itself, the CCP Review is designed to be a supportive and educational experience. It is not an assessment of a nurse’s fitness to practice, nor does it evaluate performance in the workplace. All information shared during the review remains confidential between the nurse and the CCP Team.

If a nurse does not meet the CCP Review requirements, it’s important to know that there is no impact on licensure. Instead, the process is designed to identify opportunities for learning and growth.

When such opportunities arise, the CCP Team works collaboratively with the nurse to support self-reflection and professional development. The College remains committed to nurturing continuous learning at every stage of a nurse’s career, reinforcing a culture of excellence and lifelong improvement.

What’s Required in 2026

All nurses are required to complete the following components of the Continuing Competency Program (CCP) annually:

  • A Learning Plan
  • A Self-Assessment
  • The Jurisprudence Module

Nurses selected for the CCP Reviewhave one additional responsibility:

  • Submit their Learning Plan to the College for review during registration renewal

Your Learning Plan

To ensure you are on the right track with your Learning Plan, the following resources are available to support you.

  • Review the scoring rubric on page 11 of the CCP Workbook

During registration renewal nurses will be prompted to enter their Learning Plan online. See here for step-by-step instructions on this process.

Multisource Feedback (MSF)

Why Multisource Feedback Matters in Nursing

Multisource feedback is increasingly recognized as a powerful tool in nursing—enhancing professional development, ensuring quality care, and supporting reflective practice.

Here’s why it’s important:

  • Comprehensive Evaluation: It offers a 360-degree view of a nurse’s performance, revealing strengths and areas for growth that self-assessment alone might miss.
  • Professional Growth: Nurses gain insight into how their communication and professional behavior are perceived by others—fueling continuous improvement.
  • Enhanced Patient Care: Feedback highlights key qualities like empathy, teamwork, and communication—core components of exceptional care.
  • Reflective Practice: It encourages critical thinking, helping nurses consider different perspectives and make informed changes to elevate their practice.

The CCP Review Outcomes for 2026

Once registration renewal closes on December 1st, each learning plan is carefully assessed using a standard scoring rubric. If a plan is identified as either exemplary or not met it undergoes a second review by another team member to ensure consistency and alignment with the rubric. The CCP Review outcome notifications are then created with a tentative mail out date of December 18, 2026.

Learning Plan Outcomes

Exemplary

Your Learning Plan not only met all requirements—it stood out for its clarity, flow, presentation, or innovative approach.

We may reach out to ask if we can feature your plan as an example on our website.

Met

Your Learning Plan demonstrated thoughtful planning and clear integration of learning into your practice.

You received a “Yes” for all three questions in the scoring rubric—great work!

Met with Recommendation

You achieved the program’s goal of engaging in learning to enhance your practice. However, there’s still room for improvement.

Be sure to review any feedback provided to strengthen your future learning plans.

Not Met

Your Learning Plan did not show sufficient evidence of completing a self-directed learning activity by December 1.

To meet the program requirements, you will be required to meet with the Quality Practice Advisor to understand why your plan did not meet criteria and to start work on your current year’s leaning plan. This learning plan will be submitted online during registration renewal for review.
